Texas Forestry Association (TFA) announced Bill and Fonda Snow as the 2020 Outstanding Tree Farm of the Year during the organization’s virtual annual conference held Oct. 28-29, 2020, at the TFA headquarters in Lufkin, Texas.
“Bill and Fonda have created and maintained a beautiful tree farm following many of the best management principles laid out by the Texas A&M Forest Service,” said Rob Hughes, TFA Executive Director. “Their property is proof that small stands have a greater value far beyond the original investment.”
The Snow’s tree farm was nominated by Joel Rudolph, a forester with Morrow Land Group. Purchased in 1983, the 92-acre tree farm in Rusk county was originally certified in 1996. The Snows live on their property and management for timber, recreation, wildlife, and water quality. Fire lanes have been maintained on the property and culverts were installed at creek crossings.
“Bill is a veteran forester, and it shows in the workmanship and care of his tree farm,” said Hughes. “He has done much of the work himself and we are proud to recognize his deliberate care and management of this tree farm.”
